Food stylist and writer
Born and raised in Walton-on-the-Hill Surrey, I enjoyed home-cooked food around the family table throughout my childhood. Regular visits as a young person to local Pick Your Own farms, made me aware of the importance of using fresh seasonal food. I started my own vegetable patch at the age of 12, and by the age of 16 was cooking Sunday lunch and afternoon tea at a local tearoom. It was from here that my experimenting with flavours and textures in the kitchen really took off and I discovered my love for baking.
I trained in Home Economy at Sheffield Hallam University and in my spare time whipped up quick and easy meals on a budget for my fellow students. After graduating, I was offered a work placement at NatMags writing for Prima magazine. I soon progressed to cookery assistant within 3 months, and 3 years later moved on to work as Food Editor for Safeway Magazine, being the youngest in the industry at just 24. I was subsequently awarded Turkey Recipe Writer of The Year 2003 by the Turkey Association.
Now freelance, I am a regular writer and food stylist on many popular magazines and journals, including Daily Mail You Magazine, Sainsbury’s, Weight Watchers Magazine, Healthy and Delicious. In my free time I love nothing more than whipping up a tray of cupcakes for friends and family and am always called upon to make birthday, celebration and wedding cakes – large or small from Scooby Doo to chic vintage cupcakes.
I have recently written WI Celebration Cupcakes to be published May 2011 by Simon & Schuster. Other titles I have written are Weight Watchers Quick & Easy published in 2010, The Black Farmer Cookbook, Weight Watchers Winter Warmers all published in 2009, Weight Watchers Speedy and Spicy published in 2008, Weight Watchers Menu Plans Eat Enjoy published in 2007, and have also written The Complete Gammon Cookbook published by Simon & Schuster in 2006, contributed to ‘A Fair Feast’ published by Simon & Schuster in 2005 on Fairtrade cooking, and worked on ‘Prima: The Quick & Easy Cookbook’ published by Carlton Books.
My philosophy is that everyone can cook, no matter how inexperienced, and I pride myself on repeatedly testing my recipes to ensure they are easy to follow, simple and achievable. And best of all that they taste amazing!
